 In 2021, Belmond launched a partnership with EarthCheck.

Within this comprehensive framework, our properties undergo a stringent sustainability certification process rooted in scientific principles and centered on people. In 2024, we were proud to announce that we reached our target of having EarthCheck certification for all of our eligible properties.

At Belmond, we are fortunate to be custodians of many precious coastlines. That's why we are proud to have started a partnership with Parley for the Oceans.

With an existing legacy of sustainable practices, Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya, has been selected as Belmond’s symbol of change to pilot this partnership.

The collaboration places a strong emphasis on the true custodians of the beauty and nature surrounding our properties: our employees. The initiative aims to raise awareness and inspire a network of Ocean Guardians across Belmond to drive positive change. We have expanded protected zones for sea turtles, and we are raising awareness on the causes of plastic pollution through regular beach clean ups. The programme features tailored sustainability initiatives and scientific research projects involving community conservation to support native biodiversity, including coral mapping on the Mayan Reef in the Riviera Maya to protect these vital marine ecosystems.

At Rio Sagrado, Chef Carlos Alberto Risco Loyola is spearheading the zero-waste approach in partnership with Gardener Pedro Libertador Munoz. Together they have hit several milestones such as the organic cultivation of herbs and vegetables. Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, the hotel uses only cage-free eggs, implements an on-site composting system, and procures produce from local small-scale farmers.

At Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, sustainability thrives through strong partnerships, careful sourcing, and a focus on gardens. Le Manoir's gardens are a cornerstone of its sustainability mission. Going beyond the garden, Le Manoir has also created tailored sustainability roadmaps for each department at the hotel. This empowers them to think specifically about their actions, enabling them to be clear about what they can do, wherever they work – from the Executive Office and Guest Services to Engineering and Housekeeping. This deep-rooted passion for locality and sustainability was further lauded in 2021 when the hotel received one of the Michelin guide’s first Green Stars.
